This year’s theme for Science Week at Fairway was ‘Animals and Insects’. Following recent publicity about the steady decline in insects throughout the world, we planned activities to help the children understand the how vital they are to the balance of nature and the future of our planet. The children did a range of activities including making a bug hotel, bird feeders, bee dancing and planting butterfly and bee loving plants. Older classes did research on animals that are endangered and also the effects of plastic pollution upon wildlife in our oceans.
To start the week we had a visit from the 'Animal Man' who delighted the children with a range of unusual animals and taught the children about animal classification.
