Established in the 1970s on the site of Kings Norton Golf Club, Fairway Primary Academy is a small one-form entry school with a maximum of 210 pupils, the children develop excellent relationships across the school community and are part of a unique family. The school is also proud to be part of the wider community of the University of Wolverhampton Multi Academy Trust.
The school is set in large grounds, accommodating pupils from Reception through to Year 6. Our aim is to provide a place where children are encouraged to thrive in a positive learning environment and as such we have strong values, at the heart of which is our ethos: ‘Inspiring Learners, Building Foundations, Shaping tomorrow’. We want to prepare our children for the challenges of life ahead and ensure that they are confident, not only in their knowledge and skills, but also in their beliefs and sense of self.
At Fairway Primary Academy we take pride in our curriculum by providing creative opportunities that enhance every child’s development to learn and discover as well as embracing their talents. Our expectations are high so that children can strive to achieve their best and not only meet their potential, but exceed expectations.
Our creative approach is based on topics that encompass several subjects and begins with an emersion day, where children are hooked immediately into the learning. Our curriculum is aimed at allowing children to be curious and explore thoughts, ideas, fact and opinions as well as developing skills in a variety of ways.
We welcome visitors into the school that can share their expertise and knowledge and ensure that all children participate in educational visits so that they can experience the world they live in through exciting and memorable ways.
At Fairway, we are proud to encourage our pupils to find their own voice. We value their views on every aspect of school life where possible so that children take the lead and feel valued, respected and empowered. This gives all of our children a sense of belonging, responsibility and personal achievement.
Our school Council is a group of pupil representatives elected from each class by their peers. They have a team focus on fundraising for school projects and charities and sharing class ideas on how to improve the school and its environment.
The Head Boy and Girl are elected democratically and by way of a challenging interview procedure. The children act as role models for others and support the school during assemblies, meet and greet visitors and help the school council in driving their ideas.
Arts Ambassadors use their creative minds to help develop the wider curriculum and set up art projects across the school.
The Eco Team are our eco-warriors and help the children and staff become environmentally friendly and aware.
Our Junior Safety officers are trained in health and safety and ensure our environment is stimulating and safe. They feedback to governors and the Headteacher on a regular basis.
We are very fortunate to be surrounded by a large outdoor area and we take great pride in our school environment. We value the benefits of outdoor learning and how it is a stimulant for hands on, real life experiences.
The staff and children have worked very hard over the years to create a beautiful garden, where seeds are sown and crops are produced and cared for. This has led to one of the highest accolades in the Royal Horticultural Society.
Our children value the outdoor area and learn to take responsibility, through maintaining the growing beds, taking care of natural habitats as well as developing exploration through our Forest School and storytelling area.
At Fairway children and families are part of a special family, where a sense of belonging is encouraged.
We have developed strong links with parents, so that they are part of their child’s learning and development throughout their time at the school. We invite parents into school at every opportunity, and experience has shown that the many skills offered by parents in a wide variety of areas help to develop our children’s love for learning whilst also providing opportunities for the wider community to develop skills in other areas.
A dedicated Parents Association, Friends of Fairway, raises funds for the school in exciting ways to enable children to have those important extras and support bigger school improvement projects.
Our wrap around service provides a happy and secure environment before and after school, whilst ensuring the children have fun and time to relax from their busy day at school in a structured and secure environment.
At Fairway the children are constantly being thoughtful and striving to help others less fortunate than themselves and engage with fundraising locally and nationally.
